Staying Calm & Staying Healthy; Managing Anxiety and Stress During Tense Times
During the past few days and weeks as more and more people across the globe have become isolated in quarantine, we have seen some unexpected results due to the Coronavirus outbreak. A lot of people are experiencing higher stress and anxiety levels than ever before. Some have lost jobs, some have no food, some are sick with no medicine, and many people are wondering what now? The unknown nature of the virus along with the added stress placed on the lives of many, paired with the sensationalizing tactics of news and social media,is stirring fear, hysteria, and panic on a widespread basis. And the big kicker here is, when you are under abnormal amounts of stress or when you are regularly feeling stressed out, it has the potential to weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to catching a cold, or a virus including the Coronavirus. But there is hope, and the situation at hand is also bringing many people to ask, "How do we manage anxiety and stay calm when there's so much going on right now?" Glad you asked :) ......
One of the very best things that anyone can do for yourself or those around you is to stay calm, keep a level head about the situation, and tap into that centered, strong, resourcefulness that is buried inside. There are a myriad of resources that are being made available to everyone at this time that offer relief from the emotions that have been running high. Everything from free yoga and exercise instruction, to tutorials on how to prepare for quarantine, to guided meditations, and free tapping meditations specifically for anxiety related to COVID-19 is available. There are endless resources on the web to help keep your mind occupied and calm. Here's a few to get you started on your stress-free time in isolation.
The Tapping Solution App is offering a free tapping series related to the Coronavirus. Everything from releasing anxiety and shock to boosting healing is covered in this series of EFT Tapping meditations. You can find this app in the Apple and Google Play stores.
MindBodyGreen is doing Insta Live and IGTV classes this week featuring a calming meditation with Gabby Bernstein, an AM workout with Jason Williams, how to stock your home for quarantine with Dr. Bindiya Gandhi, and a pilates class with Liz Bartha.
I have composed a Spotify playlist of meditations for healing, meditations for relaxation, and meditations for emotional wellness. Taking a few minutes to listen to some calming music or a guided meditation can bring your anxiety down almost instantly. You can find those playlists here:
Insight Timer is my personal fav app for all things meditation and my go to for finding new meditations and calming music. The free version of the Insight Timer app offers tons of meditations and music as well as a growing number of COVID-19 specific meditations. This is a great resource for newbies and pros alike.
